
Shelby is an Ohio native, and she has been living in Los Angeles for two years. Shelby moved to Westwood when she started her PhD program at UCLA. She is studying Urban Schooling, and her research focuses on closing the educational opportunity gap for students of color.
Shelby works as a public speaking coach for middle and high school girls. She is a co-founder and board member of 1girl, a non-profit that provides leadership programming to middle school girls in underserved communities across three states. She is also a founding organizer of the GiveBackHack, an organization that brings together community members to learn about and launch social enterprises.
At UCLA, Shelby serves as a Venture Consultant for Startup UCLA, where she advises students who are interested in starting non-profits or social enterprises. She is also part of the Los Angeles Global Shapers, an initiative of the World Economic Forum that brings together young professionals to make a difference in their communities.
Shelby is excited to serve as on the Westwood Neighborhood Council to help contribute to maintaining and improving the wonderful community of Westwood.
